What do women, at least American women, want most when it comes to improving our health?
According to a survey done by the National Women's Health Resources Center, the ability to reduce daily stress ranks number one, even higher than having more money to spend on healthcare and having access to better health insurance.
The study also shows that women understand that lifestyle changes, such as reducing stress levels, are vital to their well-being, but that "...most women are not translating that knowledge into action."
Why aren't we taking action? My guess is that most women simply feel overwhelmed with all that we have to do, from taking care of our children to caring for elderly parents to paying the bills, holding down a job...the list is endless. And that endless list of things to do is a big part of the stress!
Another reason that most women (and men, for that matter) don't take action, is that they don't realize they can help themselves by doing some very simple things...
like walking for 20 to 30 minutes a few times a week, practicing diaphragmatic breathing, and cultivating a positive emotion, such as graditude, by simply thinking of two or three things you are grateful for each night before you go to sleep.
These are simple things and they don't take much time. But practiced on a regular basis, their effects can be profound.
